Anger is a natural emotion that every person will gradually overcome; it comes in forms of displeasure, irritation or dislike. There are many ways of overcoming or managing anger and one main one is exactly what I thought it would be, which is exercising. I know this by evaluating some survey results, and there is one main question which answered if exercise does alleviate anger. That question was 'how do you feel after a workout?' Most answers of this question were that they felt 'self-satisfied and most importantly 'happy'.
Exercising is one of the best ways to diminish anger issues whether it's in the short or long term. Exercising brings out natural skills of empowerment and balance. When people feel these skills they start to feel happy and relaxed. The relaxed stage of working out is actually a chemical process that runs through the blood and is created in the limbic system. This is a part of the brain which is located in the lower parts and is known more as the primitive part of the brain, due to the fact that it receives knowledge from the cerebral cortex located on the outer portions of the brain. The cerebral cortex is the thinking part of the brain and this is where logic and judgement reside. This part of the brain is known as the strategy centre and it tells the limbic system when one is angry.
Exercising is the main technique for releasing endorphins in the brain and endorphins are what make you feel happy. So if a person exercises you could say it's a way of dissolving their anger.
Many of our emotions are linked to a particular physical response. Anger gets the mind and body ready for action. It makes our bodies believe we can perform super human moves e.g. punching someone so hard that they could be knocked unconscious, but in reality they're not really going to fall to the floor. A person should never progress to physical actions because that could result in effecting career options, for example, finding jobs, finding friends or winning back trust from friends and most importantly, family. This all happens because anger is the cause of this entire physical action taking place because it arouses the nervous system. It increases blood pressure, heart rate and sweating. Anger also sharpens our senses and increases the production of adrenalin which is a hormone made by the body at times of stress.
From my research I concluded that anger is thought to affect the way humans think for example; when any living creature is faced with a threat the brain puts the body in a phase often called 'fight or flight' response where all the body receptors act extremely fast and this can help us quickly translate complex information into simple terms like 'right' and 'wrong' or 'yes' and 'no'. This is useful in such situations as an emergency, when we don't have time to waste. This response triggered by anger can actually put us in a zone which could save someone's life or help with safety and well-being. It will also help the body to grow muscle fast which further releases endorphins which create euphoria for the body.
There are many ways of dealing with anger issues and the main way of doing this is by being prepared with an anger plan. Being able to rate the body's anger level helps to readily alleviate it because doing it makes a person think why and where and what made them that angry, which is the first step. The next steps that will further alleviate anger are to actually devise the anger plan. Anger plans will vary depending on the person's circumstances. An anger plan should include:
- The best and most efficient way to deal with anger is by exercising. Exercising is the most common solution to grow muscle fast. Growing muscle during exercising as previously read will release those unwanted stress feelings and will gain endorphins for the brain thus creating a happy feeling for the individual. Exercising doesn't only alleviate anger issues it can deal with many other life troubles.
- My survey results indicated many people enjoyed eating after a long strenuous workout. These foods would need to be healthy because keeping healthy can be good for the body's strength which would then help minimise their anger. Most importantly though being healthy boosts self-esteem which therefore keeps the body stress free and happy.
- The easiest way for an individual to release some stress is to take some time out. This is a safe way to release anger and this can be done by removing them from any situation that is causing them to become angry. Have space to gather any thoughts so they can calm down. From experience to make this situation better, engaging a close friend can help them down.
- One of the most used techniques is a relaxing technique; usually therapists hold relaxing technique sessions which clear the mind of any unnecessary aspects of life. However relaxing sessions need to be done properly or else they will find that anger will annoy them more than what it already was. Treatments involve regular sessions a week just to ensure that the anger is being alleviated.
Some useful tips are to: Slow things down - counting to ten and devising strategies to calm a person down will find it easier to visualise a relaxing or pleasant feeling.
Express their anger - Express this with a person really close to you, make sure you do this in a peaceful manner. Tell the person everything that makes you angry, just let it all out. This will clear the mind of anger.
Exercise regularly - exercising is a great way of releasing hormones the body makes when we are angry, like adrenalin for example. If you exercise regularly not only will your body better regulate your adrenaline and cortisol levels, but as you become fitter you will have better levels of endorphins which are natural feel good hormones. You will also sleep better; a crucial factor for good mental health.
Sleep - try to get at least 7 to 8 hours. Sleep is crucial for good mental and physical health.
My research led me to the conclusion that exercising can diminish anger issues as illustrated by this report. Anger is one of the most important aspects to learn about because the body needs to know how to overcome stress as this report has explained. The anger plan is a great idea to alleviate anger and also a great way to grow muscle fast. The first step in the anger plan was to exercise because exercising is one of the healthiest ways to deal with anger and it also keeps a person healthy, thus making the body more stress free and happy. Anger can be easily dealt with so people need to make sure it's alleviated before the body takes action, because the brain controls everything that the body deals with. Anger can also lead to dangerous behavior so it needs to be dealt with, it's not hard to work out regularly.
